Are you in grade 8, 9 or 10? Do you want to strengthen your leadership, job and life skills? Do you want to help in the community? Do you want a summer experience that is both challenging and fun?

“Serve Up The Summer” is Serve’s six-week summer program for youth aged 13 - 16 years old (in grades 8 - 10) in Malvern and Flemingdon Park.

Over the summer, youth participate in fun games, activities and workshops to develop teamwork and leadership skills, participate in special trips in the city and volunteer opportunities. Throughout the summer, youth will:

  • challenge themselves daily and learn to work in a team
  • volunteer in the community
  • participate in workshops on diversity, bullying, conflict management and more
  • take part in an adventure-based retreat outside the city
  • have loads of fun

Upon completing Serve Up The Summer, youth take part in a graduation celebration and receive both a certificate and small financial award for their commitment to achieving their goals.

Interested? You must be:

  • Completing grade 8, 9 or 10
  • Living in Malvern, Flemingdon Park or Thorncliffe Park
  • Wanting to strengthen leadership, job and life skills
  • Willing to volunteer and help in the community
  • Available Monday - Friday from approximately 9 am - 4:30 pm for six weeks this summer (July 7 to August 15, 2008).  Daily attendance is very important.

We are used to talking to friends and teachers but we didn't know how to talk to people from different age groups. At first, we didn't know how and we felt scared. It was also a worry whether we could get along with others in the team, but as we worked together in different activities we all learned the importance of cooperation and respect for one another.
