Serve! Gives a Boost For Youth |

Recognizing a need among young youth workers in the city, Serve! has taken on an initiative which would be different from yet will build on other Serve! programs. Through the Boost for Youth initiative, youth workers (or prospective) youth workers ages 16-29 participate in interactive training workshops. The workshops focus on anti-oppression/cultural competence, understanding and managing conflict as well as team/group dynamics. The aim of the training is to build understanding and skills that support equity, diversity and positive relationships.
Through self exploration and experiential learning, participants are building awareness, skills and confidence in addressing oppression in their work with youth and creating more safe and equitable environments for their clients.
The workshops are offered for a fee to youth agencies/organizations throughout the city and can be offered as a series or a stand-alone session. If your group or agency is interested in taking part in the Boost for Youth training please contact Elaine Munro, Program Manager, at (416) 933-2950 or email

She Speaks: A Community Approach to Violence Prevention and Healthy Relationships |
|

|

Developed and produced by members of the Stronger Selves, Stronger Lives special project team (as part of the Experience This! program) in 2005, She Speaks is a resource guide for youth on preventing violence against girls and women, discrimination, harassment, relationships and safety. This 70 page book includes information, personal stories, perspectives and tips about understanding violence, how to create healthy relationships and what can you do about being more proactive in your community.
She Speaks: A Community Approach to Violence Prevention and Healthy Relationships is available for download as a pdf. Up until about 2008 or so the book was available and distributed free of charge to community agencies, classrooms and organizations that work with youth (but we have run out of physical copies).

You cannot currently purchase this book. But hey, if you'd like to provide a grant for reprinting a bulk supply of the book, please contact the Serve office!

She Speaks: A Community Approach to Violence Prevention and Healthy Relationships
is an important community resource developed by Serve!’s Stronger Selves, Stronger Lives Team.
The project received funding from the City of Toronto Access and Equity Grant Program (2004 Phase Two). The idea behind the project was to provide opportunities through intensive leadership development for young "at risk" women of diverse backgrounds. The program was developed to build capacity and increase skills in areas such as problem-solving, communication, assertiveness and critical thinking, and to produce a resource guide about women's issues and healthy relationships as a tool to create awareness on issues of human rights and discrimination.
