Highlights of this program for me was the first day. It was one of my highlights because it was the first day we all met each other. I consider this to be one of my best highlights because this was the one day I enjoyed most. I enjoyed meeting the team and getting to know everyone. This was one of the best days because usually when you first meet people you don't know it’s somewhat awkward. But the first time we all met each other there was no awkwardness at all and that’s why I enjoyed this day the most.

Another highlight from this program for me was the Youth Day Festival. It felt rewarding giving back to the community and doing something for a good cause. During the Youth Day Festival we had to educate the individuals walking the streets of downtown Toronto on poverty in Canada. It was difficult at times to get the individuals’ attention but overall it was a good feeling knowing we educated some people about the ongoing poverty in Canada.

I find Serve to be a very good opportunity for youth of today. It gives the youth who can't find a job a chance to make some money as well learn valuable jobs skills at the same time. The fact that Serve is not an actual job but there are still rules we need to abide by helps us in the long run because it prepares us for when we do go out and get a real job.

It prepares us by teaching us what to expect and how we should be conducting ourselves so we are not seen as unprofessional. Serve creates a lot of opportunities by having workshops that not only helps us learn more about job skills but also about ourselves and the skills we posses as well as the skills we need to improve on. Serve works with you to create goals for yourself and motivates you to accomplish these goals. This is why I find Serve to be a good opportunity because it’s not every day you find programs that help you to build job skills as well improve on your own personal skills.

Quotes From Participants

I learned something new in my life. How you can be acknowledged by others by being assertive. I have learned how to behave and how others can respect you. It also teaches me how to get along with others.
