Serve! alumni receives award

Brian McCurdy, a recent Serve! graduate (Experience This! 2004) was recently recognized with an award from the Toronto Youth Cabinet, City of Toronto.  The Identify ‘n’ Impact Youth Awards celebrate the valuable contributions young people make to communities throughout the City of Toronto and the important role youth play as advocates, visionaries, and agents of social change.

Brian received the Building Community through the Arts or Athletics award, for his work in creating the Cross Disabilities, Genders, Sexualities Working Group, one of the first queer disability groups in existence. Through the Queer Art Collective, Brian also produced a documentary on “dumpster-diving,” to shed light on youth poverty issues.

This is not the only award Brian has received this summer-- Brian was also the recognized earlier in the summer with the Youthline Community Youth Awards for his accomplishments in the area of Outstanding Achievement in Creative Activism.

Congratulations to Brian on his achievements and contributions!

(requires quicktime)

We have learned lots of lessons about everyone. Here, we are treated fairly and respected by all. Together, we can accomplish anything. We help out the community and help ourselves as well. Everything we do here benefits someone else. Working together, we help ourselves.
