In the beginning of the Serve! program, it was like “what am I getting myself into?” At first I was thinking “is there going to be any weird people?” When the day started, I was like okay hope this goes okay and no problems.

Once the days and month started I started to like the people and be close to each other and to me... they were cool. The cool part so far was going to Hamilton and doing the tree climbing with ropes and repelling down and working as a team and rotating.

We also as a group had to come up with a team name and it was a while but we finally  came up with one called Circle of Servers and it’s a cool name and knowing everyone comes from different and various backgrounds you get to learn from each people who made it in the program. I never knew people can get along and work as a team and I think there are skills I can still gain from Serve! and I can’t wait to see how much I’ll improve when the program is done.  I hope I can achieve life goals and careers goals that would make me successful and working with the facilitators in Serve! are cool mentors.

I think being here and taking any activity you see that’s dumb in your eyes will be knowledge in the long run. I’m really happy that I am taking part in the program.

Quotes From Participants

When I started at Serve!, I was 21 years old, had never had a full-time job for longer than two months and was a year and a half clean from a crippling heroin addiction which I allowed to rob me of the opportunities every youth has when they are in high school. In the program, my personality came out for the first time. I discovered my natural leadership abilities but I also learned about the difference one person can make.
