The four cornerstones of Serve!'s success include: team development, personal development, community service, and for our older youth, financial assistance - all on the platform of experiential and reflective learning.

methodology

Team Development

Workshops promote life and job skills;

  • Communication
  • Assertiveness
  • Leadership
  • Conflict-resolution
  • Problem-solving

Personal Development

Each participant works on a personal development project of their choice.

Community Service

As teams, youth work with several community partners to implement projects that meet community needs, such as:

  • Poverty and homelessness relief
  • Environmental protection and renewal
  • Social isolation (e.g. seniors, people with disabilities)
  • Community development (e.g. peer support to other youth and children)

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance is provided for youth in the Experience This! and Making it Work programs. Financial assistance is dependent upon youth meeting program expectations which includes: regular attendance, contributing positively to their teams, and while completing all required assignments.  Youth receive a living stipend which covers basic needs and allows youth living in poverty to achieve stability while they participate in the full-time programs. This is necessary for making a long-term commitment to learning and accomplishing their goals.
