Serve! Engaging Youth for Change

Benefitting the Community and Developing Ourselves

I was a part of the Serve! Making It Work program.  Although the days were often filled with challenges and hot weather, I enjoyed every single one of those 6 weeks.  At first, I just went about doing what was required of me but soon I began to realize that I had created this close bond with so many of the other team members.  We had gone through many challenges and pretty much every day together.  The experience was fun.  I also began noticing that what we were doing for the community was not just doing something- but instead affecting someone’s life in a positive way-be it youth or seniors.

Serve not only benefited the community around us but the team members as well.  The many workshops and activities we went through and just the people that we have met have changed our ideas and opened many different perspectives and opportunities that we may not have had before.

The skills I have gained at Serve will for sure benefit me in the future.  I had a lot of fun in this program and I hope that in the future many others will as well.

We are used to talking to friends and teachers but we didn't know how to talk to people from different age groups. At first, we didn't know how and we felt scared. It was also a worry whether we could get along with others in the team, but as we worked together in different activities we all learned the importance of cooperation and respect for one another.
