Salary Range:$30,000 to $32,000 per annum (to be pro-rated to 7 month contract). Subsidy for public transportation will be provided.
Description: The Program Coordinator is responsible for the support, supervision and facilitation of a team of youth (17 to 24 years old) from diverse backgrounds in a six-month experiential learning and personal development program as well as planning and coordination of weekly program activities. Reporting to the Program Manager and acting as a liaison with community partners, the Program Coordinator will provide leadership to the team in developing personal and group work skills, while facilitating their involvement in various community-based projects.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a curriculum plan, program activities, workshops (in collaboration with other program staff) consistent with Serve!’s experiential and service learning principles as well as any grant obligations;
- Collaborate in/lead youth participant recruitment, selection and screening;
- Coordinate and support the participation of all youth participants so as to effectively deliver programs and achieve program, team and individual participant goals;
- Motivate and supervise a team of up to 10 youth participants on a daily basis;
- Develop and manage special projects (as appropriate) to support diverse youth in planning and implementing the projects.
- Facilitate participants’ involvement in community-based projects and maintain positive relationships with community partners;
- Prepare and carry out (mid and final) evaluation of participants, community projects, and overall program;
- Maintain program statistics and complete reports on progress made towards program and team goals;
- Perform administrative tasks including record-keeping and managing participant files;
- Complete program reporting and evaluation responsibilities;
- Coordinate, supervise, and support program volunteers as needed;
- Attend and participate positively in adventure-based wilderness retreats (i.e. one day and week-long) outside of Toronto;
- Participate in staff meetings and other team building activities;
- Participate constructively in ongoing supervision and personal performance review process;
- Other relevant duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum two years experience in group facilitation, non-formal education, or a related field
- Understanding of and experience in team development and group dynamics
- Demonstrated ability to work with youth (17 – 24 years old) and diverse populations, particularly youth facing multiple challenges
- Ability to resolve conflicts and deal with crisis
- Experience in and commitment to anti-oppression work
- Background in experiential learning and debriefing/processing are assets
- Good organizational, coordinating, and problem solving skills
- Strong written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Good stamina and ability to multi-task while working independently in a fast paced environment
- Demonstrated positive role modeling abilities and professional conduct
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office programs (i.e. WORD, EXCEL)
- Background in community development.

Locations of focus for the Program Coordinator can include the Malvern community, Flemingdon Park community, and/or downtown Toronto (depending on organizational needs and resources).
