Serve! Engaging Youth for Change

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy behind Serve! is simple: put young people into meaningful leadership roles in their communities through volunteer service and you create an opportunity for young people to learn and grow.

By placing young people in situations in which they are role models, Serve! helps youth to take ownership of their future and discover their self-worth as they realize that others need and value them.

This philosophy has proven effective. 89% of program graduates of Serve! succeed at achieving their educational and career goals upon completion of our programs. These youth become leaders, role models and continue their positive experiences as better citizens.

MISSION

Serve! engages diverse youth in experience-based education, teamwork and community involvement so that they may establish personal direction, overcome obstacles, achieve goals and contribute to society.

The Serve Canada Team was a true joy to work with. They showed maturity and discipline beyond their years and their positive attitude was delightful. I feel truly honoured to have worked with such a committed group and have only the highest praise for their commendable work in helping the community.

We are looking for a few agency partners for weekly community projects for a team of 10 youth (17 to 24 years old) to meet community needs and to build youth civic engagement and skills development. Does your organization/agency have a project that can run once a week from end of January to May 2010? We are mainly looking for projects for Monday or Wednesday afternoons (or possibly a one-time service project on a Friday morning).
